Title: Compression of 3D Textures (Bachelor or Master)

Existing work:
Blockcompression (ASTC format offers 3D block compression). However: Even the newest version of KTX (2020) does not offer supercompression for 3D (see https://github.com/KhronosGroup/3D-FormatsGuidelines/blob/main/KTXDeveloperGuide.md)'
Open VDB (since December 2020) for sparse models.
Extend 2D compression shemes to 3D. JPEG uses DCT. Come up with own ideas.

 

Title: Texture Mapping 2D->3D->2D (Bachelor or Master)

Problem: Texture a 3D Mesh seamlessly with a 2D Texture
Step 1: Convert 2D texture to 3D solid texture http://graphics.uni-konstanz.de/publikationen/Kopf2007SolidTextureSynthesis/
Step 2: Use the 3D texture to create a 2D texture atlas for the 3D Mesh
